 As bath design evolves, showers and tubs no longer share the same space. Secure the faucet mounting nuts to the underside of the countertop (figure e ). You should be able to reach the shower valve or volume control from the shower threshold, and running water shouldn't aim at the door. Above the sink, unscrew the pop-up flange and remove it. Cut the new ceramic tile backer board (or cement board) to the size of the space. Use clear caulk and the seam will be barely visible. Patch the hole with water-resistant drywall. This method is used to convert the rotary motion of an electric motor into the up-and-down motion of a jigsaw blade or a sewing-machine needle.
